35mm Slides

35mm slides can be scanned to several different sizes and purposes. If you just want to view them on the screen, either the computer or television, we will scan them between 72 and 240 dpi, but smaller than if you want to be able to blow them up to poster size or 8" x 10". If you have a HD TV, you would want them scanned at the 240 dpi, but if you are planning to use them on a computer, the 72 dpi works just fine.

End result changes how they are scanned

The end use of the digital scan determines how long it takes to scan each slide. The other factor is how the slides were stored. If they have been put away for several years and never looked at, you might have mold on the slides. It is very time consuming to remove the mold, but it can be done in most instances. If they are heavily damaged, you might want to be more selective on which slides you have digitized

For Museums, we can bring our scanning equipment and scan items on site. The cost is a $300 minimum plus travel costs if over 100 miles. For house-bound individuals - call us for quote. Locally, we do it for just the cost of the services. Outside of Independence, give us a call and we can see what we can do.

 Diffculties incurred with 35mm slides

Most slides are in color. When slides are stored away they can become moldy. Slides stored even in a closet can become moldy, spotted or lose emulsion. Some slides are stored in even less friendly environments such as garages or storage sheds. It may be years before they are pulled out and looked at again. It can be very expensive to digitally repair these slides when they are so badly damaged. It can be done. It just depends on how much you are willing to pay, or how much time you are willing to spend doing it yourself. Color is monumentally harder to do than black and white which adds to the cost of repair. If your slides have become moldy or damaged and you want them repaired, please ask us for a quote.
